Fulfilling its White House American Business Act on Climate Pledge, Switch Will Be Powered By 180 MW Of New Solar In Nevada

As of today, Switch and all of its SUPERNAP data centers and its more than 1,000 clients who are colocated at their facilities, are powered by 100 percent renewable energy, making Switch the world’s largest colocation data center environment to adopt all-inclusive green technology. Unlike other data center providers who only purchase renewable energy credits, sometimes from several states away, in a process that many believe leans towards ‘greenwashing,’ Switch will be producing the renewable energy it needs to run its SUPERNAP data centers through new solar facilities operating in Nevada.

During the construction of its new 180-megawatts of solar generation projects, Switch Station 1 and Switch Station 2, Switch has partnered with local utility NV Energy to utilize renewable energy from existing facilities in the state.

Construction of Switch Station 1 and Switch Station 2 will be completed by First Solar in partnership with NV Energy and Switch before the end of 2016.

Switch Confirms Plans for Massive Michigan Data Center

Switch has confirmed plans to build a massive SUPERNAP data center complex in Grand Rapids, Michigan after the passage of tax incentives that were crucial to the deal.

The Las Vegas company, which operates a huge cloud campus in Las Vegas, plans to invest as much as $5 billion in a data center complex at the former Steelcase Pyramid complex. Switch plans to build up to 2 million square feet of data center space at the campus, which will serve as its East Coast cloud hub.

Game company plans $50 million expansion into Southern Nevada

Machine Zone, Inc., the company behind “Game of War: Fire Age” — the top grossing iPhone game in 30 countries — announced plans Thursday to expand its operation into Southern Nevada.

The company is expected to make a $50 million investment in the state, in large part by purchasing up to 4,000 servers. Machine Zone has already signed a lease for a 12,000-square-foot property in Southern Nevada and plans to hire 50 full-time employees in data, customer service and quality assurance.

Few data center providers build bigger than Switch. Today the Las Vegas company unveiled plans for its largest project yet, a $1 billion, 3 million square foot SUPERNAP data center campus on 1,000 acres of land near Reno, Nevada.

E-commerce giant eBay Inc. will be the anchor tenant for the SUPERNAP Reno, which will connect to the main SUPERNAP campus in Las Vegas via a new fiber loop, which will also extend to Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay area. The massive project was announced tonight by Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval.

CenturyLink Moves into Switch SUPERNAP in Vegas

CenturyLink announced it has signed a data center services deal with Switch Tuesday. CenturyLink will sell space in one of Switch’s Las Vegas facilities, while Switch customers will have access to the Monroe, Louisiana-based telco’s extensive data center services portfolio.

The Switch SUPERNAP campus in Vegas is well known for its sleek design, massive size and ex-military security personnel. CenturyLink has been expanding its data center footprint ever since it doled out $2.5 billion to acquire Savvis in 2011.
