For decades, electromechanical code transmitters have been used to generate the pulses of coded track circuits. While these transmitters are reliable performers, their precise, somewhat complex mechanisms require periodic inspection and maintenance. US&S has developed a more cost-effective, yet equally reliable alternative. The DMSSCT is a direct replacement for the US&S shelf type DM mechanical code transmitter.
The DMSSCT relay duplicates the 50, 75, 120, 180 code rates of the electro-mechanical DM shelf relay. This relay incorporates internal Tranzorb protection for switching the code following relays, and also includes automatically re-settable internal short circuit protection. The DMSSCT is externally constructed to match the DM shelf style transmitter space. The positioning of AAR terminals and assigned functions are identical to the mechanical counterpart to permit direct substitution of the mechanical relay by the electronic unit. Code transmitting circuit (electronic module) are contained in the familiar "cookie" jar shelf unit and are easily extracted for servicing. Alternating LEDs visible on the module indicate code transmissions in progress.
