Wayside Control: Microlok® II with TCP/IP

wayside photo 1

For nearly 20 years the MicroLok® Wayside Control System has been a flexible and efficient way to manage all of your vital and non-vital wayside systems. Now, Union Switch & Signal has implemented IP connectivity with the MicroLok II control system, providing the most effective way to communicate between various vital train control devices in the field from office-based train control centers.

By putting field communication systems through a common data network, all of your vital and non vital protocols can be seamlessly transported over land-based TCP/IP networks and RF communication networks. Imagine the possibilities: In the event of weather-related damage or a disaster, each control point can be moved from one dispatching center to another. Use of the TCP/IP interface will also allow the exchange of data remotely with any control point anywhere on the network. Even if a network does not exist, the TCP/IP connectivity allows for several MicroLok II units to be linked in a "mini LAN/HUB" configuration, ideal for a complex interlocking situation.

MicroLok II TCP/IP connectivity provides:

  • Enhanced communications through a common, peer-to-peer protocol
  • Interface to existing networks
  • More efficient communications in transit and multi-unit standard interlocking applications
  • Numeric variables in programming, in addition to the standard Boolean bits
