To simplify wayside control system installations while increasing their capabilities, flexibility and economy of installation and operation, Union Switch & Signal has consolidated vital and non-vital control logic, data transmission and coded track circuits into a single package with the MicroLok ® ® II II Wayside Control System.
The US&S MicroLok II Wayside Control System has the flexibility and all of the capabilities required to control wayside configurations ranging from an end-of-siding to a double-track universal crossover. It combines vital logic, non-vital logic and coded track circuits into one easy-to-maintain card file, capable of efficiently performing a number of diverse functions, including:
- Signal lighting
- Vital interlocking control
- Train detection
- OS track circuits
- Coded track messaging
- Code system for non-vital control and indications
- Cab signaling
- Event recording
Vital Control Logic
The MicroLok II system eliminates nearly all of the vital relays that traditionally have been required for wayside signaling and control. Its vital logic is based on the US&S MicroLok Vital Interlocking Control System that has proven its reliability in railroad and rail-transit applications, both domestically and internationally, since its introduction in the 1980s. The MicroLok II system's vital logic has been upgraded to take advantage of the latest processing technology.
Non-Vital Control Logic
A non-vital logic controller (code systems interface PCB) has been made available for the MicroLok II system card file. This enables non-vital logic and datatransmission functions to be executed by the MicroLok II system, and it separates vital logic from non-vital logic in order to reduce testing time.
MicroLok ® ® II Wayside
Control System The non-vital logic is compatible with other systems, such as the GRS (Alstom) Datatrain I/II and Harmon MCS-1 communication systems, along with PTS, ARES and ATCS systems.
Coded Track Circuits
Coded track circuit capability is provided by the inclusion of US&S MicroTrax® Coded Track Circuit printed Coded Track Circuit printed circuit board (PCB) cards. Two PCB cards can provide coded track circuits for the approaches at a doubletrack universal crossover.
A new enhancement to the MicroLok II Wayside Control System is the E-Codetm d.c.-coded track circuit, which enables the MicroLok II system, when so equipped, to be fully compatible with Electrocode 5 and all previous generations of Electrocode.
