Introduced in 1999, the Union Switch & Signal MicroLok II Wayside Control System combines vital logic, data transmission, non-vital logic and electronic coded track circuits into a single package capable of controlling applications as complex as a double cross-over.
As advantageous as such a control package has proven to be, the MicroLok II system has too much I/O capacity to be economically implemented at intermediate signal locations. To be able to apply a MicroLok II-based package at simple signaling locations, US&S has developed the i-LokTM Coded Track Circuit System.
Based on the MicroLok II Wayside Control System, the i-Lok track circuit is designed to include the vital control logic, electronic coded track circuits and the I/O capacity required at intermediate signal and other small-scale wayside control locations such as repeater or intermediate locations. i-Lok is used to manage track circuits providing end-to-end rail integrity, including detection of train shunt, faulty insulated joints or broken rail. In addition to managing track circuits, this system allows the user to control signals, drive relay outputs and receive inputs from external sources.
The i-Lok Coded Track Circuit System features the MicroLok II CPU printed circuit board (PCB) and software, including the executive program and the MicroLok II Development System. The Development System package consists of an application-logic compiler, a reverse compiler, an application-logic comparison tool and a maintenance tool.
Coded track circuit capability is provided by the US&S Coded Track Circuit PCB or the E-Code Coded Track Circuit System PCB, which allows the i-Lok Controller to be applied in territory where ElectrocodeTM track circuits are installed.
