Job Description: The IT Managers role is to ensure the streamlined operation of the IT Department in alignment with the business objectives of the organization. This individual will plan, coordinate, direct , and design IT-related activities of the organization, as well as provide administrative direction and support for daily operational activities of the IT department. The IT Manager will work closely with the Director of Information Technology and decision makers in other departments to identify, recommend, develop, implement and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the organization. This person will also define and implement IT infrastructure policies, procedures and best practices.
Responsibilities: Lead IT Department operational planning, including fostering innovation, planning projects, and organizing and negotiating the allocation of resources Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade and support of all IT systems, including servers, PCs, operating systems, hardware, software and peripherals. Union Switch & Signal, Inc. (US&S) has an immediate need for a Field Coordinator to be home-based in the Chicago, IL area:
Purpose: To provide customer and US&S project team with on-site expertise in maintaining stability and configuration management of US&S supplied systems. Uses problem analysis techniques and configuration management procedures in order to maintain and coordinate all systems at the site. Interface with System Engineer and Project Director on a regular basis. On-site interface to customer.
Responsibilities/Functions:
Configuration Management Manages all software transfers/warm starts/cold starts at the site Is familiar with hardware setup of all systems and equipment at the site Keeps current backup of the system disks and drawings Maintains data files and port assignments necessary for each type of device Performs backup and restore procedures if a hardware problem is identified Maintains all command files at the site Maintains a complete set of up-to-date wayside circuit drawings Maintains a complete set of applicable service manuals Maintains a complete set of contract documents, specifications, drawings, etc.
Processing Problem Reports Obtains/organizes information related to customer problem reports Analyzes customer problem reports to provide insight to the project team Filters out customer problem reports that incorrectly identify problems Enters valid reports into Problem Reporting Handler and forwards reports to the System Engineer Uses debugging tools to assist in problem resolution
Customer Interface Keeps customer updated with status of software modifications to go on-line and problem analyses Participates in weekly customer phone meetings Responds to emergencies in a timely manner Participates at weekly on-site project meeting and provide PM/PA with copies of all documentation, meeting notes, schedule updates, etc.
Field Site Testing Coordinates and participates in site testing of hardware and software components Assists Field Test Engineer with wayside and office testing.
Metrics Gather re-start metrics as out lined for quarterly reviews Generate customer contact metrics related to the number of questions/clarifications on ART (auto routing) operations, CTC functions, IS functions and hardware functions Generate log of all off-hour customer calls Generate monthly report summarizing re-start metrics, customer contact metrics, and off hour customer calls, perception of customer satisfaction
Additional Functions/Responsibilities Maintain awareness of activities of supplier of computer-hardware maintenance services, vital wayside equipment and ground equipment. This position exists to assist the Project Manager(s) with the execution of the project by applying well-established accounting and generally accepted business practices, theories, concepts to moderately difficult issues.
