Determining the position of a moving train is one of the primary characteristics of safe and efficient train control. As the demands for higher speed, efficiency and safety increase, more precise methods of determining a train's position will be required. To meet these demands Union Switch & Signal offers a precise, cost-effective means of determining the position of a moving train relative to a fixed wayside point.
The US&S Digitrac Train Location System can function as a stand-alone means of determining a train's position, or it can be integrated with other technology, such as Remote Control Locomotive (RCL) systems and a global positioning satellite (GPS) system, in an overall positive train control (PTC)/positive train separation (PTS) package. Fully compliant with ATCS specification 335, the Digitrac Train Location System can be readily integrated with on-board processing equipment, recording, or display devices.
The Digitrac system consists of three basic components:
- On-board antenna
- Wayside Transponder
- On-board Reader
