The key to 2-way telemetry, Union Switch & Signal's Digitair Model 6699-CC End-of-Train Sense & Brake Unit (SBU) transmits essential data over FCC-approved frequencies to and from the loco-motive cab. The SBU's case is made from a new improved , high-strength composite material that is highly resistant to physical abuse. The NEMA-4 rated electronics enclosure is water-resistant and features a Condensation & Corrosion Control System.
The Digitair SBU monitors brake pipe pressure and the direction and motion of the last car of the train, and continuously transmits this information to the locomo-tive operator. It also communicates self-diagnostic data on the SBU's battery condition and the integrity of the unit's RF communications link. All Model 6699-CC SBUs are equipped to enable an emergency brake application from the last car of the train. Each SBU also features an FRA-compliant, ultra-brilliant High Visibility Marker light to warn following train crews within an extended range.
The Model 6699-CC SBU is fully compatible with AAR protocol standards for EOT systems, and allows opera-tion with one or two-way cab devices. Data is transmit-ted over FCC-approved frequencies, with unique ID codes and an "arming" feature for security.
