The Digitair Model 6696 CDU is a compact locomotive control stand-mounted unit providing all the necessary logic and controls for one or two-way communication with End-of- Train (EOT) units. The CDU Model 6696 meets or exceeds the AAR guidelines for End-of-Train Telemetry.
The Model 6696 features a 32-character alphanumeric display for clear, concise end-of-train and wayside communications. The CDU receives and displays data from one-way EOTs. In the two-way mode, it receives and displays data and transmits an emergency brake application to the two-way equipped EOT unit at the rear of the train when necessary.
Operating controls are located on the front panel and are ergonomically arranged for ease of use by the locomotive operator. A group of nine illuminated push buttons is used to provide various menu-driven functions. An audio enunciator is provided to give the operator an audible alert when a significant event occurs. The CDU continuously displays the current brake-pipe pressure at the end of the train along with the ID number of the EOT attached to the coupler of the last car. The CDU also displays data relative to train movement and diagnostics related to the EOT unit. The CDU is equipped with an RS-232 serial port for laptop diagnostics and customer configurable applications. The CDU also employs Flash memory for ease in dealing with optional software updates.
